How do I set it up the first time?

Open the lid, fill the cylinder with water, add a few drops of soap —this stops the jellyfish from sticking to each other— and close it. Wait five minutes and you're done.

It's normal for air bubbles to get trapped in the jellyfish at first, making them swim poorly: gently push them free with a toothpick, as explained in the manual. After that, you won't need to touch anything again.

What size is it exactly?

22 cm tall by 7.7 cm in diameter. About the size of a small water bottle.

We'd rather tell you upfront: it's not a floor lamp, it's a piece for your nightstand, desk or shelf. Lit up, it's perfectly visible from across the room.

Does it need to be plugged in?

Not necessarily. It works with the included USB cable (5V — any phone charger or computer port works) or with 3 AAA batteries, which aren't included in the box.

With batteries you can put it anywhere an outlet doesn't reach: a shelf, a ledge, or a child's room.

How do I change the color?

With the switch on the base. It has 8 colors: red, green, blue, yellow, purple, cyan, white and orange.

You pick whichever one you feel like for the night and it stays there.

Can I leave it on all night? Does it make noise?

Yes. The LED runs cool, it doesn't heat the water, and power consumption is minimal.

The pump that moves the water makes a very faint hum, similar to a small humidifier. In a quiet room you can hear it if you're paying attention, but it won't keep you from sleeping.

Is it safe for children?

It has no sharp parts and doesn't heat up, and the cylinder is acrylic, not glass.

Even so, it combines water and electricity, so we recommend that an adult sets it up and that its use be supervised around young children.
