"From the photos I had doubts about the quality, but the cylinder is thick acrylic and the base is heavy enough not to move if you bump it. It's not the thin plastic I expected at this price."

Paolo

★★★★★

"I almost didn't buy it because I thought the movement would be a video trick. The jellyfish really do rise and fall, very slowly, and you end up watching them without noticing what time it is."

Chiara

★★★★★

"I looked at five similar lamps before deciding. This was the only one that gave the exact measurement on the listing, 22 cm, and that's exactly what arrived. It fits on the nightstand and is perfectly visible from the bed."

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I set it up the first time?

Open the lid, fill the cylinder with water, add a few drops of soap —this stops the jellyfish from sticking to each other— and close it. Wait five minutes and you're done.

It's normal for air bubbles to get trapped in the jellyfish at first, making them swim poorly: gently push them free with a toothpick, as explained in the manual. After that, you won't need to touch anything again.

What size is it exactly?

22 cm tall by 7.7 cm in diameter. About the size of a small water bottle.

We'd rather tell you upfront: it's not a floor lamp, it's a piece for your nightstand, desk or shelf. Lit up, it's perfectly visible from across the room.

Does it need to be plugged in?

Not necessarily. It works with the included USB cable (5V — any phone charger or computer port works) or with 3 AAA batteries, which aren't included in the box.

With batteries you can put it anywhere an outlet doesn't reach: a shelf, a ledge, or a child's room.

How do I change the color?

With the switch on the base. It has 8 colors: red, green, blue, yellow, purple, cyan, white and orange.

You pick whichever one you feel like for the night and it stays there.

Can I leave it on all night? Does it make noise?

Yes. The LED runs cool, it doesn't heat the water, and power consumption is minimal.

The pump that moves the water makes a very faint hum, similar to a small humidifier. In a quiet room you can hear it if you're paying attention, but it won't keep you from sleeping.

Is it safe for children?

It has no sharp parts and doesn't heat up, and the cylinder is acrylic, not glass.

Even so, it combines water and electricity, so we recommend that an adult sets it up and that its use be supervised around young children.

Watch them for three minutes and you'll get it

You don't have to do anything. The jellyfish rise, hover for a moment and sink back down, always at the same slow pace, lit from below in whichever color you've chosen.

Your eyes get hooked and your breathing slows down on its own. It's what happens when you watch waves, but on your nightstand.

An aquarium with no fish, no filter and no guilt

You set it up just once: tap water, a few drops of soap, the jellyfish inside, and close the lid. Five minutes and it's ready.

From there, there's no filter to clean, no food to buy, and nothing that dies because you went away for the weekend. You just turn it on.
